Come join this class for a review of skills or for learning from the beginning! Each week we will look at a new topic as scheduled below to discover the world of English and the doors that are opened for us when we learn it well! Class will be a mixture of lecture and discussion and will also have a content section on writing skills. Join for one lesson or all depending on where you are at in your learning journey. Slides will be presented in Nearpod but I will screenshare so that parents do not have to have a separate account. Each meeting will consist of a short review of the previous topic and then we will move to new content. I will provide additional learning material for practice for those students who would like to have that option. Please ask your student to come prepared with paper and pencil for class. Weekly topics are as follows: Week of Sept 9: Syllables and Rhymes (Create a catchy short story) Week of Sept 16: Statements, Questions, Commands, and Exclamations (Correct the punctuation) Week of Sept 23: Subject of a Sentence (Identify the wacky subject) Week of Sept 30: Historical Fiction (Make your own history) Week of Oct 7: Predicates Week of Oct 14: Combining Subjects and Predicates Week of Oct 21: Compound Words Week of Oct 28: Realistic Fiction (Create your own) Week of Nov 4: Complete Sentences, Fragments, and Run-ons Week of Nov 11: Choosing Book Titles Week of Nov 18: Homophones Week of Nov 25: Fantasy (Make your own unbelievable story) Week of Dec 2: Conjunctions Week of Dec 9: Regular Plurals with -s and -es Week of Dec 16: Irregular Plurals Week of Dec 23: Synonyms Week of Dec 30: Identifying details that don't support the topic in a story Week of Jan 6: Plurals, Singular Possessives, and Plural Possessives Week of Jan 13: Subordinating Conjunctions Week of Jan 20: Personal and Reflexive Pronouns Week of Jan 27: Facts versus Opinions Week of Feb 3: Action Verbs Week of Feb 10: Antonyms Week of Feb 17: Back up your opinion with a reason Week of Feb 24: Regular Past Tense Week of Mar 3: Topic Sentence of Informational Passages Week of Mar 10: Irregular Past Tense "I' Week of Mar 17: Endings -ed and -ing Week of Mar 24: Topic sentences for Expository Paragraphs Week of Mar 31: "To be" and "to have" Week of Apr 7: Pronoun-Verb Agreement Week of Apr 14: Context Clues to Identify Word Meanings Week of Apr 21: Idioms Week of Apr 28: Adding Descriptive Details to Sentences Week of May 5: Contractions Week of May 12: Ordering Story Events Week of May 19: Base Words, Prefixes, and Suffixes Week of May 26: Topic Sentences for Narrative Paragraphs We will have a short lecture on each topic before proceeding to an activity related to that week's topic.
