Have you ever been to Japan and gotten stuck? Do you want to go to Japan, but are too scared because you don't know the language? Well, have no fear, this series will definitely help you. This course will bring you essential Japanese that you need to comfortably travel, as well as, provide you with some history and culture behind the words. You will be able to: Week 1: 1. Ask for directions and know how to respond. -Go straight -Turn right, left, etc -In Front of -Next to -Behind 2. Learn about food ticket vending machines -Learn how to ask for help -Learn how to ask for a recommendation -Learn how to work a food ticket vending machine Week 2: 1. Learn how to ask about the weather - Learn about rainy and sunny weather - Learn how to ask what you need (umbrella, coat, etc) - Learn how to ask about the weather in different parts of the country - Learn to ask about the weather for different days (Today, tomorrow, the day after). 2. Learn about 100 yen shops Week 3: 1. Learn more about trains - Learn about the Japan Rail Pass -Ask if a train is stopping somewhere -Find out when rush hour is Week 4: 1. Learn more about trains -Find out how to pay for a ticket -Find out how to make a reservation -Find out if you are on the right train Week 5: 1. Learn even more about trains -Learn about counting train stations (three train stations later) -Learn about changing trains
I received my undergraduate degree in the Japanese language, culture, and history. I also earned my Master's degree in K-12 education. I studied abroad at Nihon University in Tokyo as well as worked as an English teacher in Niigata, Japan. I was able to see what I learned firsthand
Students will be given worksheets to print out after the class to reinforce their learning. Because this class meets weekly, this is optional. The student has the choice to send their homework to me to look over if they want to. They will get a vocabulary list that goes over everything they have studied.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I do not routinely give an assessment at the end of the class. However, if a student or parent would like an assessment, they may request one by emailing me.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
