Class Experience
Welcome to virtual study hall! In this essay writing study group, students who have experience in essay writing are provided dedicated writing time and teacher access for feedback. This class is ideal for students who have taken one of Choreography by Rae's writing courses or who feel that they have a good understanding of essay structure. At the start of class the teacher will ask students to share what type of essay they are working on and whether they have any general questions (example:...
Students who struggle to make time for writing their essay once a class is done will benefit from having dedicated writing time on their schedule. Students who are developing their essay writing skills and looking for additional feedback before turning in an essay will gain feedback.
This organization has approved the following educators to teach our studio created curriculum: Ms. Rae has over 8 years of experience teaching creative writing to Middle School students. She has been teaching ESL learners online for 6 years. Mr. Rafael has over 8 years of experience as an English and Math tutor. Ms. Jacinta has over 8 years of experience as an English tutor and is a published author.
Students are expected to have an essay they are already working on. Students can use this class time to work on their essay.
Students may send the teacher a Google Doc link in the chat during class or they may ask for a Google Doc link to be sent to them. No special account needs to be created if we send the student a Google Doc link.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students should be able to work independently and should understand their essay criteria including essay format and essay type. Students should know if they are writing a narrative essay, compare & contrast, argumentative, research, narrative. Class feedback example might be, "please refine your thesis" or "this paragraph uses too much slang." Students who have never written an essay or who have very little essay writing experience should take a private lesson or enroll in one of our group writing classes.
