In this course, students will learn how to write an effective essay at the middle school level. They will learn steps needed in order to write a 5 parapragh I will structure the class by using screen shares of slides, showing students how to use sites for evidence in their persuasive writing and by discussion and Q & A. We'll also look at sample essays, or parts of essays, to evaluate changes that need to be made. Session 1: What is one expected to write in middle school Language Arts? Do you know how to write an essay? Session 2: Identifying a topic and essay forms. MLA vs. APA formatting. Session 3: Narrowing down your topic, determining sources and quotes to use. Session 4: Gathering ideas/note taking to form your argument. Session 5: Writing an outline, determining your essay writing timeline, ideas how to get participant feedback. Session 6: Rough draft writing, editing, proofreading, tools to check your grammar and academic writing. Session 7: Sharing your rough draft. Get feedback from peers/teacher. Q & A on how to incorporate feedback. Session 8: Sharing your final essay orally and visually. Celebration of our learning and discussion of how you can use skills learned in this course in your future academic writing.
