Class Experience

We will slowly write a narrative essay one paragraph at a time. In the first class, we will review what a paragraph is and practice writing short paragraphs. The second class, we will talk about outlining -- what it is and how it can help you prepare to write an essay. The second class is also when I will assign the essay prompt for the class: Write a narrative essay about a time when you helped someone out. How did you help them? How did they respond? How did you feel after?

During weeks 3-5, we will write one paragraph of the narrative essay every day. I will give a short lecture about the paragraph we are working on that day, and reinforce that information with a fun activity. Then each student will write out that paragraph for their narrative essay. The last class will be spent combining all five paragraphs into a single essay. We will read our essays out loud to each other and celebrate our hard work!
