Description

Class Experience

Students will learn how to write three different types of essays and create cohesive, well-written paragraphs.
I have been teaching writing for over 7 years to middle schoolers. I believe I have mastered the strategies and "tricks" to creating well-developed and thoughtful essays. My students continuously receive perfect writing scores every year, and I am so excited to teach my methods on Outschool. I believe that my techniques (albeit silly at times) will prove helpful to middle school and high school students who are in the beginning stages of their writing journey.
Students will write an essay (or part of an essay) each week, starting when they receive their first writing prompt. They will have six days to complete each assignment from the time they receive the prompt. See the schedule below for more information:

Week 1: Students will write an introduction and conclusion to their informative essay. They will have six days from session #1 to submit their essay for review and feedback. Unfortunately, late work will not be accepted.

Week 2: Students will write body paragraphs for their informative essay. They will have six days from session #2 to submit their essay for review and feedback. Unfortunately, late work will not be accepted.

Week 3: Students will write an argumentative essay. They will have six days from session #3 to submit their essay for review and feedback. Unfortunately, late work will not be accepted.

Week 4: Students will write a personal narrative essay. They will have six days from session #4 to submit their essay for review and feedback. Unfortunately, late work will not be accepted.

Week 5: Students will write a fictional narrative essay. They will have six days from session #5 to submit their essay for review and feedback. Unfortunately, late work will not be accepted.
Learners will receive weekly feedback (constructive criticism as well as honest compliments) on their writing. I will use a rubric to score the essays (the rubric will be introduced to the reader in week 1). However, I will not assign a letter grade to the essays.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
