In this weekly writing class, middle school students will strengthen writing skills by learning a new strategy to improve quality of writing each week and following easy steps to respond to paragraph prompts. Great for essay preparation.

A well-written paragraph is the building block to all other writing. In this ongoing course, students will expand on basic writing skills to become confident, skilled, independent writers. They will follow steps to write narrative, informative, and persuasive paragraphs, responding to a variety of writing prompts. This class will go beyond the basics to allow learners to grow in their ability to add details, begin sentences in a variety of ways, and write cohesively in different styles....
Students will grow in their understanding of the paragraph writing process, and in their ability to write quality paragraphs independently. Students will gain an understanding of a specific writing strategy each week.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English, and held a Professional Teaching Certificate in Florida to teach English in grades 6-12. For the past several years I have taught small group English classes, including how to write paragraphs.
Homework Offered
No homework is required, but students are welcome to complete paragraphs outside of class (that were started in class) and submit them to me for feedback.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be informally assessed through class discussion and practice to ensure student understanding and so I, as the teacher, can adapt the class to student's needs. Students who submit paragraphs will receive personalized video feedback outlining areas of strength as well as specific strategies for improvement.Grades Offered
Students with unique learning needs are welcome to use any assistive technology (i.e. talk to text). All students work at their own pace. Learners with dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD have been incredibly successful in this class.
Students should be able to write basic paragraphs independently to be successful in this class.
Students will need paper and something to write with each week or the ability to type in a document such as word or google docs.
