Students learn six different techniques for hooking their readers, how to write an effective thesis statement, and how to bridge the gap between the lead and thesis statement. Students will write their own introductions independently with helpful feedback from the instructor.

Students learn how to write a concluding paragraph that leaves their reader thinking by using four different techniques. YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!

Students will learn how to write a Works Cited page. Students have time to revise and edit their essays after receiving feedback from Mrs. Lemons.
This class is comprehensive, and students: 
1. build confidence in their ability to write effectively. 
2. learn to write an essay with an effective introduction, fully-elaborated body paragraphs, and a powerful conclusion. 
3. learn to use correct grammar when writing. 
4. learn to generate ideas, organize their thoughts, and to think when writing. 
5. learn to use a process that strengthens their ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and conventions. 
6. learn to work independently, using resources and a reliance on their mastery of new skills. 
Mrs. Lemons has a B.A. in English Literature, a minor in Education, and a Master's in Education Administration. She has her teaching certificate and principal's license, and she is certified to teach English / Language Arts and History / Social Studies. She has many years of experience at the middle and high school levels. Further, she is an adjunct faculty member at Colorado Christian University, supervising teaching candidates in their undergraduate and graduate programs. She is a teacher of teachers. 
Homework Offered
By the nature of a self-paced class, all students do work asynchronously and turn it in to the teacher.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Mrs. Lemons assesses all work and offers extensive feedback through their Google Doc essay and through email. For this extensive feedback, students must use Google Docs.
