In eight years, I have taught about 1,000 middle school students and 990 of them struggled to plan and organize their essays. This session will show a one-plan-fits-all procedure to plan an essay around a thesis statement.
Class experience
Students will learn a tried and true method for beginning their essay writing tasks. We will brainstorm and build an essay plan around a thesis with a graphic organizer (chart). Here is an example essay topic for the class: Is clutter sometimes okay, or should you always try to be neat? This topic, or a similar one, will include reading passages to find evidence and help us decide our thesis. I have been teaching essay organization and writing to adolescents and teenagers for seven years. I have a great method and have developed and sold this curriculum to hundreds of teachers through Teachers Pay Teachers. It works!
I will provide my essay planning sheet of awesomeness for your learner to use for any future writing assignments. They should be able to open this and write on it with some type of word processor. I can share it through Google Docs or as a .docx file.
