Class Experience

Lesson 1:
- Count syllables in words to understand how to blend sounds
- Meet the characters
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « The Odd Egg » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words « Farm », « Chick », « Hatch », « Lamp », « Fan » and « Duckling »
- Talk about how to look after a pet

Lesson 2:
- Practice blending sounds to create words ending in "ER" and count the syllables
- Meet the characters
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « Fire! » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words « Firefighter », « Fire engine », « Smoke », « Hut » and « Barbecue » 
- Talk about what we should and shouldn't do near a fire

Lesson 3:
- Blend syllables in words ending with “er”
- Meet the characters
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « Hiccups! » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words  « Shock », « Hopping », « Patting », « Get rid of » and « Quick » 
- Talk about what we can do when facing a problem

Lesson 4:
- Count and blend syllables
- Meet the characters
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « The Ball Pit » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words  « Ball pit », « Fall », « Glasses », « Find » and « Upset » 
- Talk about what to do when we loose something

Lesson 5: 
- Practice sounding out words in "ight"
- Meet the characters
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « The New Gingerbread Man » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words « Make », « Oven », « Running », « Rack » and « Jump » 
- Talk about how to cook safely

Lesson 6:
- Practice sounding out words in "eat"
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « Kipper the Clown » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words « Circus », « Strongman », « Clown », « Laugh » « Stuntman » and « Fed up » 
- Talk about fun things we can do with our family

Lesson 7:
- Practice sounding out words in "ell"
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « The Jumble Sale » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words  « Counted », « Money », « Time », « Spring-cleaning », « Drawer » and « Buy » 
- Talk about what you can do with your old toys

Lesson 8:
- Practice sounding out words in "ot" and "ut"
- Make predictions about the story
- Read the book « The Barbecue » while asking and answering questions
- Learn the vocabulary words « Light », « Food », « Rain », « Burger » and « Burned » 
- Talk about what your mom and dad can cook
No homework is required but practicing speaking what was taught in the lesson is always encouraged. If the parent would like homework assigned, please contact Teacher Laurie.
Each child will have an informal assessment throughout the lesson, including how much the student is engaged during the lesson, speaks in complete sentences and if the child is able to put together phonics to create words. Written feedback is provided at the end of the 4 weeks or earlier if requested.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
