This is a course for English Language Learners who are serious about building an academic and professional vocabulary. In this on-going class, learners will hear, see, and use new vocabulary each week. Our words will all fit into a business, science, tech, or art theme for the week. Students will build vocabulary around themed units. They will learn to define, pronounce, and use the terms in casual conversation and to apply the new knowledge to other areas of their academic and personal lives. Our Themes: First Week of Class: Vocabulary of leadership theory and practice, traits of leaders, leadership and culture Second Week of Class: Vocabulary of travel and hospitality for travelers and industry professionals Third Week of Class: Vocabulary of mass media and interpersonal communication Fourth Week of Class: Vocabulary of setting and achieving SMART goals through planning, strategy, and insight Fifth Week of Class: Vocabulary of creating and presenting audience-focused and purpose-driven speeches and presentations Sixth Week of Class: Vocabulary of conflict resolution and conflict management Seventh Week of Class: Vocabulary of Visual Design principles such as contrast and repetition, as well as color theory and hierarchy Eighth Week of Class: Vocabulary of Time Management techniques such as Pomodoro method, understanding procrastination and the relationship between action and motivation
PDFs will be provided after each session.
