Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
The student will learn sight words, vocabulary, grammar, phonics, reading skills, and simple math.  If there are time that the student needs help with other subjects they can ask the teacher to create a lesson to help build the knowledge needed.  Sight words will start as simple sight words that the student will use to practice spelling and creating sentences.  Vocabulary will be based on the subject being taught.  For example if the student has a lesson on their home the vocabulary words may be the different rooms in their house and then the different items found in the different rooms.  The student will work on grammar and sentence structure learning the correct why to create a sentence in English.  Phonics will help the student with reading and their pronunciation.  Phonics is very important when it learning to read and also learning the correct way to say words. Math will include counting, shapes, and any math the student needs help developing.
The student will be asked to practice what they have learned in class and will have a review at the beginning of the following class. At the end of class the student will be given a small homework project.  This will be related to what they learned in the class.  They will either be asked to create a picture relating to what they learned, they will be asked to create sentences using their sight or vocabulary words, or they will be asked to practice spelling the new words that they have been learning. 
Reviews and assessments will be informal and done at the beginning of the following class.  At the beginning of the class the student will informally present their homework project.  They will be given time to talk about what they created and how it relates to the lesson.  As each lesson is a continuation from the previous lesson they will continue to review throughout the class.  After a few weeks the student will read a story that relates to what they have been learning.  This is to show they understand what they learned and also to help their reading comprehension. 
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
