Students will learn the place values in English from the thousands place to the millions place. We will practice reading large numbers after charting them. This class begins with direct instruction and moves quickly to student interaction as learners read large numbers individually and through teamwork. Learners will also read large numbers in texts, on signs, and as part of math equations. I will give immediate feedback and encouraging corrections when needed. We will play games that allow students to interact with one another. The pace will be fast, but the students will be active the entire time, and I will present the correct reading of large numbers many times so students have several opportunities to learn the concepts.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to read numbers from 1,000 to 1,000,000 by learning the correct names for place values, the correct position of commas, and the correct pronunciation of digits in English.
