ESL English Is Confusing

30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
When learning English, many of the phrases used can be challenging for ESL learners. In this class we will be learning many of those sayings (idioms) and where they come from. We've all heard the idioms: "You woke up on the wrong side of the bed." "Put a sock in it." "Show your true colors." But most people don't know where the idioms come from. We will play games to learn some idioms and learn why we say them. Why does "sleep tight" mean to have a good nights sleep? Why does dad call his boss a "big wig". Learners will be participating in a slide show. They will view images and try to guess the idiom. We will discuss the meaning together. Lastly, we will be discussing the history of the idiom.
Learning Goals
ESL learners will improve their speaking and listening skills by better understanding idioms and learning the history of each one.
