ESL (English as a Second Language) for Beginners

This class is taught in English.

In these first 12 classes of this beginning level, we will specifically look at basic greetings for different times of the day and simple emotions such as being able to ask/answer "How are you?"    We will start to understand how to use "me, I, you" and the possessive use of "my".  We will focus on the short sounds of vowels and simple sounds of consonants.   We will begin to look at English letters and how to write them.  We will also start looking at numbers and how to spell and write numbers 1-10. We will learn the difference between a letter and number. Lastly, we will learn simple present verb use and focus on state of being verbs-am, is and are to use in sentence patterns. I will always review, repeat, model and engage your child.  I use a slideshow format that will include fun animations and video inserts to increase understanding.  This format also allows for the students to engage the class in an interactive manner using the Zoom tools right on our teaching slides. 

For this level, children should simply practice with their family and friends speaking the sentence patters we learn in class and identifying things they see around them.  I will follow up each class with a post on our Outschool classroom page that tells parents what sentence patterns and vocabulary we used that class so they can encourage practice, practice, practice. 

1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
