Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 10
Prepare for IELTS, TOEFL, international high school, class abroad program by reading about and discussing technology, business, and design. In this class, two students will read and discuss articles about technology, business, and design in order to:

~learn new vocabulary
~recognize a variety of sentence structures
~build comprehension skills
~practice speaking skills

The goal is to learn advanced vocabulary and to read and discuss complex sentence structures. To this end, our class will be structured as described below:

brief intros

student A reads one paragraph aloud
vocabulary from the paragraph is defined, used in sentences, and applied to other contexts
student B reads the next paragraph
vocabulary is defined, used in sentences
students answer comprehension questions about the first two paragraphs
this pattern continues

Week One
~Climate change and the economy
Week Two
~Motivation and the brain
Week Three

Week Four
~Sound, light, and curing diseases
Week Five
~Moore's Law
Week Six
~Tap water and 'forever chemicals'
Week Seven
~3D printing and space travel
Week Eight
~Culture and streaming entertainment

My goal is to create a class where students are engaged and active. Students should do most of the talking as the people doing are the people learning. I see my role as a guide and coach providing clues, encouragement, and correction when needed. Learners are encouraged to interact directly with one another during the course.

**This class is limited to 2 students so that each learner gets to talk, read aloud, answer questions, and interact with me a great deal. Fewer students means more attention and opportunities.
