Class Experience
Teenaged learners do not always like to talk. Even though they read, listen, and learn, they are often uncomfortable speaking in front of peers and a teacher they do not know. This flex course allows teens to demonstrate their knowledge and interact with peers asynchronously. In this flex course, I will teach elements of plot, reading to summarize, reading to analyze, and reading to synthesize, vocabulary, and the three kinds of connections readers can make with a text. Students will learn to analyze stories, to make connections between the story and their lives, other books, and the world, and to form and communicate a well-organized opinion about the characters, the plot, and the language used in the story. In this course, students will practice their writing skills and speaking skills via written posts and recorded spoken replies. In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be provided a link to a Kahoot! game on kahoot.it. The questions in the Kahoot! will assess comprehension and spark deeper thought about the book's theme.
