***To participate in this class, learners will need to go back and forth between the Zoom meeting and multiple tabs, as well as access links sent through the Zoom chat feature.*** Use your brains so the zombies don't eat them!!! The scenario is this... You're not scared. That abandoned house at the end of the street might be creepy, but there's no way it's haunted. You and your friends decide you're going to prove it by exploring it and bringing out a token of proof. Once inside, you realize two things: 1) that things are not normal and 2) that you are lost and confused in the dark. To escape the house, you will need to go room to room, solving a task in each room as you go. If you can solve them all, you can get out before anything gets you. Learners will need to solve puzzles (logic, jigsaw, math, and more!) hidden in a Google Site. All information and clues needed are hidden somewhere in the escape room, and I will provide hints if needed. Since the escape room runs through a Google Site, it works best if you are using Chrome. During class, all students will be oriented to the task, open the presentation, and then be split into teams of no more than 4 to work in breakout rooms. This will allow students to contribute more meaningfully than working individually or in a large group. I will be going from room to room to check on students' progress and answer any questions they may have. ***Note: Class is listed as 75 minutes long but depending on how long it takes teams to work through the puzzles, it could take anywhere from 50-75 minutes. There is also a BONUS PUZZLE for early finishers. SIBLING DISCOUNT: Do you have more than one child that wants to participate? Message me after you enroll and I will refund you $3 for each extra learner.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Eighteen years as a public school teacher in Maryland and two years as an Outschool teacher have provided me the opportunity to teach learners from diverse backgrounds with a variety of learning styles. I began my teaching career in elementary school, teaching all subjects and earning my Masters of Education with a certificate in Gifted Education from Johns Hopkins University. Later, I added both Middle School Math: 6-9 and ESOL Pre-K-12 certifications to my professional certificate. Most recently, I taught middle school math, working with both accelerated students and those with Special Education needs. Because of my varied experiences, I have many strategies to help all kinds of learners.
Math is my passion because while there may only be one correct answer, there are often many different ways to solve the same problem. Exploring those different ways and finding a method of solving with which each learner feels most confident is what I love to do. I like to incorporate hands-on strategies, games, and interactive activities into my lessons to make math less scary for reluctant mathematicians and more engaging for everyone.
When I’m not thinking about math, I enjoy baking, cake decorating, drawing, working in my vegetable garden, and sewing. In my spare time, I can be found hiking, kayaking, bird watching, doing a puzzle, or assembling furniture. I look forward to meeting your learner!
