Before class, students will receive a short eBook about the piano to read on their own time. The escape room game will be fun and silly, but will also review some of the material from the book (the parts of the piano, keyboard layout,etc.). Here is the premise of the game: "Your music class is on a field trip visiting a concert hall, when suddenly, the piano comes alive like a wild, angry animal.Your entire class is trapped inside the hall with the piano, and now you must capture and tame the piano before it bites you!" In this game, students will search a room for tools (virtually), work together on a word challenge using the "musical alphabet", decipher a password, and more! This class is appropriate for students who know nothing about the piano yet, and also for those who are young pianists.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the outer and inner parts of the piano, the basic mechanism of how the piano works, the layout of the keyboard, the purpose and names of the pedals, the origin of the name "piano", and a brief history of the piano. They will also listen to some Chopin Etudes, and use their imaginations to solve puzzles and problems.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Through my teaching, I strive to encourage a love and knowledge of music that will be valuable to the student for a lifetime! I enjoy sharing the vivid beauty and excitement of music, and helping students explore new sounds and masterpieces that open up new worlds of music to them.
I have taught music history & theory, music appreciation, piano lessons, and other music courses from preschoolers to adults, over the past 15 years. I currently teach piano lessons, and music courses at a community college.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, and a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy. My main instrument is the piano, but I also play the harp for fun, and I'm teaching myself to play the banjo. In my spare time, I enjoy discovering new music (the weirder the better!), modern art, eating dark chocolate, and figuring out how magic tricks are done!
