Escape room style challenges support the development of many life skills, including: - Teamwork: sharing ideas and engaging in discussions, ultimately develops essential social, communication and negotiation skills - Problem Solving through Critical Thinking: requires an open-mind and using reason and evidence to draw logical conclusions - Problem Solving through Abstract Thinking: using different perspectives to determine the correct approach - Confidence Building: cracking a code provides a huge amount of self-satisfaction; even incorrect answers offer a positive contribution through the process of elimination - Time Management: with only 45 minutes to solve the puzzles and "escape" the room, teams needs to strategize and devise ways in which to work efficiently and accurately. - Attention to Detail: the key is often in the detail, requiring focus and concentration so nothing is missed. Students will learn through an immersive experience involving an adventure to Victorian London. Students will complete a series of activities which are setup as a digital Escape Room, with participants being required to enter the correct code/solution to progress to the next stage. 5-10 minutes: Student introduction (by student) and setting up the expectations of the game. 45 minutes: Students will play the game, either through screen sharing of my main screen or by breaking out into small teams of 2-4, working together to solve the puzzles. The teacher will support the students through the game, intervening as needed, providing instruction and support to assist teams to solve the puzzles. Remainder of time: Student debrief. A Google Earth tour and a Kahoot Challenge related to the game materials are available for the student to do in their own time, following the game.
Learning Goals

Hello!
My name is Helen, and I am an occasional homeschooler of my two boys. I have homeschool them from Kindergarten through to 12th grade, and therefore have a broad range of subjects in my repertoire! I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. I have lived in the UK, Portugal and China, and have traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
I am originally from the UK, where I studied a range of subjects at college, including Applied Chemistry, Marketing, Tourism Management, Education and Law. I am qualified in Further, Adult and Higher Education, and taught Business, Tourism, Marketing and Law at University in the UK and Asia for 10 years before leaving to setup my own business.
I have managed a number of businesses, from property development, restaurants and vacation rentals to lifestyle & concierge and currently own an escape room in Vermont.
I believe children learn best when actively engaging and having fun, but I also believe that they need direction and focus to support their learning outcomes. I aim to use my broad experience to bring fun, interactive and relevant educational opportunities to students on Outschool.
