Each week of this flexible schedule class, students will be tasked with solving clues in literature, history, grammar, and life skills in order to escape! Following a quick intro video from Mrs. Becky, the escape rooms will be available at any time, hosted through Google Forms, and students will work their way through the clues provided within each escape room. Some escape rooms have reference guides and/or printouts to aid their progression, but they are all available in digital form...
This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their understanding of the famous author and poet Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher, commonly confused words, and comma usage. Students will also work on their problem-solving skills!
I adore teaching literature, history, and English classes, and in my years of experience in the public education classroom, there is no better way to gain student engagement than through an escape room.
Each week, student will need to complete the escape room challenge, upload their "escaped" screen, and record/share a video detailing their thoughts on the escape room, what they found most challenging, something they learned, and tips/hints for classmates still working through the challenge.
Any needed handouts will be available in the Outschool Classroom posts for each week. These materials are also available digitally within the escape rooms.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- Google Forms, Puzzel.org, various educational and historical website, and Google Jamboard
Students' progress will be measured by whether or not they are able to complete the escape room. I will embed hints and help into the Google Forms escape room, and be available through messages to offer additional assistance and guidance throughout the process. Students can interact, help, or ask for help on the Google Jamboard collaboration board, or through the post comments in Outschool's classroom.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Edgar Allan Poe wrote on some morbid topics. We treat these topics with care, and approach them from an academic standpoint. ****This is a flexible-schedule class. There are no live meetings.****
These escape rooms were created in conjunction with Selena Smith. The escape room will link to outside websites based in historical and educational value.
