Students will be required to have completed at least 1 or more of my Escape Room games, to ensure that they are familiar with the style of games and how they are used from a player perspective. Using Ronald Dahls’ book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” as our base setting, we will build a related story line and use this plot to create a series of puzzles linked to the theme. Students are expected to be familiar with the story, and ideally have watched the original 1971 movie “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” or read the book. Students will explore developing alternative story lines, ensuring consistency of the story elements. Day 1-2: - review and discussion of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - creation of an extended story line - using Google forms as a platform to create quizzes and puzzles Day 3-5: - introduction of different styles of puzzles - perception puzzles (spot-the-difference) - word puzzles (coded messages) - logic puzzles (true-false logic) - using online resources to help create puzzles - creation of puzzles to suit the storyline Day 5: - introduction to Genial.ly as a platform for interactive presentations and game design Day 6: - game day: students will work in teams on the created games and puzzles Students are encouraged to submit copies of their work each session and will receive constructive feedback.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
My name is Helen, and I am an occasional homeschooler of my two boys. I have homeschool them from Kindergarten through to 8th grade, and therefore have a broad range of subjects in my repertoire! I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. I have lived in the UK, Portugal and China, and have traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
I am originally from the UK, where I studied a range of subjects at college, including Applied Chemistry, Marketing, Tourism Management and Law. I am qualified in Further, Adult and Higher Education, and taught Marketing and Law at University in the UK for 10 years before leaving to setup my own business.
I have managed a number of businesses, from property development to lifestyle and concierge and currently own an escape room in Vermont, and am aiming to use this experience to bring fun, interactive educational opportunities to students on Outschool.
I believe children learn best when actively engaging and having fun, but I also believe that they need direction and focus to support their learning outcomes.
