Assessment
The goal of this class is for students to be able to work together in a fun, interactive Escape Room style class, to discover the codes to unlock the “keys”, which then open up new regions of the Solar System, and lead their ship and crew deeper into space, ending with an adventure in Interstellar Space. As such, they will complete tasks, puzzles, and other fun team-building exercises to find the missing code words to unlock each new key/region of space!

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Attention, my Astronaut friends, are you ready to explore beyond the confines of our Solar System? Are you ready to find out what’s really out there? Well, in order to do that, you must first show you have the necessary skills and knowledge to beat the gravity and push yourself, and your crew, into Interstellar Space!
In this Escape Room Challenge, you will join with your crew of fellow astronauts to try and solve the riddles, problems, and complete the tasks in order to gain the keys to escape each area of the Solar System! The teams that enter Interstellar Space win an amazing Space Badge, which is the envy of all future astronauts & space travelers!
Use your understanding of our place in space & our space neighborhood, the Sun, the planets, and the various regions found all around us in our Solar System to answer & solve each new problem & complete the tasks in order to find the precious keys. Each key allows you and your team of fellow classmates (astronauts) to enter a new region of space, escaping from the magnificent gravity holding you back from your exploration of interstellar space!
1.	Students will use their knowledge about our Solar System to escape the gravity of the Sun & the 8 main planets, in order to unlock the four different regions of space (escape rooms), as they strive to escape the Solar System & travel into interstellar space
2.	Students will complete various tasks, puzzles, and find missing words using codes, as they unlock each key, which opens up a new region of our Solar System they must work together to escape from.
3.	*At each level, once they have found the “key” they will be rewarded with another space challenge, as their ship speeds off to explore this newly gained region (escape room) of our Solar System.
*Students will be considered “astronauts” during this escape room. They will be placed with at least one other astronaut, and will be encouraged to work with their crew of astronauts, encouraging collaboration, synergy, problem-solving, and teamwork as they strive to find each code word.
Join us, my astronaut friend, on this amazing Escape Room Challenge-Escape The Solar System!

Learning Goals
Let the Space Adventure begin!
Areas of focus: facts about our Sun, 8 main planets, the Solar System regions, moons, and the Terrestrial & Jovian Planets.
Other areas of focus include working well with others in a fun-based, online environment, and building a sense of partnership and collaboration with their fellow astronauts as they problem solve to find the codes to unlock each new key & region of the Solar System.

Parental Guidance
Teacher will have a document with the puzzles, activities and other code-breaking fun available in the Outschool Classroom one hour before the beginning of our class. Please do not allow learners to look at this “Top Secret” document until Teacher Kristina instructs them to do so! Learners will need to help to either print it off, or put it on the screen, along with our Zoom class. If printing is not available, having a separate screen helps so that the learners can both see their astronaut crew (classmates), as they work together to solve each activity to learn the new code words. Also, something to write with, pen/pencil is recommended as learners will be decoding, completing puzzles, and other activities during each escape room. Parents: A link will also be provided within the Outschool Classroom to the Google Form where learners will insert their code words to, which will retrieve the keys, and a video opening up the next sector of the Solar System. Learners may need help accessing the Google document & putting in the code where they will insert their codes to receive the next key. Teacher Kristina will also be available with the Google Form, if learners have difficulty accessing it & to help with any other issues, problems, or questions during this Escape Room Challenge!

Our escape room utilizes Google documents which have been prepared by the teacher. Learners will receive the link in the Outschool Classroom once our online escape room begins and will simply click on the link to begin entering the codes to unlock the keys as we race through each new region of space (room)!

I have always had a love of space, from the moment my grandpa, an amateur astronomer, let me look through the 10-foot telescope he built all by himself, to watching shuttles & satellites lift into the sky, and watching some fall back to the earth. I have spotted some of the largest dust storms to hit Mars, and have enjoyed looking at the various craters on our Moon and seeing the rings around Saturn, all from my own backyard in Missouri & while using other telescopes my grandpa built. I have never ceased my exploration and search, looking to the skies to watch for eclipses, comets, and so much more! My love of all things Space has only increased with time, and I feel it is the next great wave of the future!
As a teacher with three different degrees, including a Master’s Degree in Teaching, I have taken several science courses, including those dealing with Astronomy. I also have over 30 years of experience working with children of various ages, teaching a variety of topics, including Astronomy, Arts & Crafts, Music, Business, Computers and more! I love to share my knowledge with the next generation as I hope to instill the awe-inspiring beauty the Unknown Universe holds, as well as encourage students to dream and believe! I hope to see you in class as we take on this Escape Room Challenge-Escape the Solar System!
