Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 11
This 4 day class discusses quadratic topics such as the definition of what quadratic is, characteristics of quadratic equations and their graphs, forms of quadratic functions and the information they provide, and methods of solving quadratic equations. Students will listen to some basic information given by me and practice a few problems from each subtopic as we go through the material. On Day 1, I will give the definition and basic characteristics of quadratic equations/functions, how to graph quadratic functions, and how to describe transformations on them. Day 2 covers forms of quadratics i.e. standard form, factored form, and vertex form and the information that can be gleaned from the form. Day 3 covers solving quadratic equations by graphing and by factoring. Day 4 covers solving quadratic equations by the quadratic formula and completing the square. Activities from Desmos.com will be utilized.
Learning Goals
Students will identify an equation as quadratic or not. Students will graph quadratic functions and identify their important features. Students will describe transformations to quadratic graphs. Students will identify forms of quadratic functions and what information can be determined by the form. Students will solve quadratic equations algebraically and graphically. .

Hi! My name is Kerri Lookabill, and I have been a math teacher for 32 years. I have taught mainly at the high school and college levels (and a brief semester at the middle school level). I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and Mathematics, a master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics, and an Educational Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education. I have taught high school math classes in General Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Probability & Statistics, Trig, and Calculus. I have taught college math classes of General Mathematics, Beginning Algebra, College Algebra, and Probability & Statistics. I love for my students to feel a need to learn math and to enjoy learning math. I live in southern WV with my husband Jimmy and my children Caden (21) and Colleen (18). We are big sports fans and love to watch local athletics.
