With their destructive winds, torrential rains, and creation of enormous waves, hurricanes have impacted nature for many years. This course will dive into detail on what it takes for nature to produce one of these deadly storms and the devastating effects they can have on anything in their path. We will also discuss some of the most destructive and unique hurricanes in American history and their underlying effects on humans and their way of life, along with their long-lasting environmental impacts. Lastly, learners will be taught different safety measures to take in the event of a storm of this magnitude. Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a master's degree in biological oceanography in a multidisciplinary program centered around marine, earth, and atmospheric processes and their interconnection. I also have a bachelor's degree in environmental studies. Along with these credentials, I've completed a semester-long project in weather forecasting with a local news station. I have also spent the past 15 years teaching and designing courses in environmental science to students of all ages in a variety of different settings. These settings range from outdoor education programs, museums, and formal classrooms. I even experienced multiple hurricanes as a young child and their effects growing up along the eastern shore of the United States.
