Class Experience
In this class, students become part of an online virtual community and compete against each other individually and collectively against other groups. Students enter a web-based application that allows them to buy real estate on a virtual map and then make strategic decisions on what to purchase from a market (investing). The market changes each week and students have to critically think and make a decision on when to hold, sell or buy assets/items. The application allows students to compete...
Students will learn the value and power of money through investing, real estate, and many other financial literacy concepts.
Classroom teacher for 8 years and founder of the TOWN Project. Over 700 students have taken part in the project.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The TOWN Project is a third-party tool. Learners will be given login information. No private information or emails will be collected. Students will login, create a character, create a town name & logo, purchase land from a virtual map and buy/sell items from a market that changes each week! The app will keep track of each character's net-worth on a leaderboard. Students can compete against others from around the world! Students cannot communicate with each other through the app.
