Description
Class Experience
Students will learn the practical and legal side of starting a business, along with the creative aspects of market research, branding, and marketing. The course is designed to give students a more realistic idea of what it takes to launch a small business.
I hold both bachelors and masters degrees in legal studies, worked as a business litigation paralegal for 3+ years, and spent years as a freelance ghostwriter writing educational marketing content and books for attorneys, victims rights advocates, and serial entrepreneurs. I've also owned several small businesses of my own, spanning nearly 10 years. Much of the material provided in this course is based on one of the ghostwritten books, as well as my experience in business and law. Locally, I host this same 10-week course for middle and high school students. I LOVE to help build the next generation of entrepreneurs and creators!!
Weekly homework assignments will be based on the lesson. As each learners business concept will be different, timeframes will vary.
Homework assignments will also require students to access their local Secretary of State website, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and other government sites with invaluable resources and information.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will be using a free 3rd-party tool called Nearpod to make our lessons more interactive. Each week, students will be given a code to access our private Nearpod page. No login is required.
