Class Experience

The Monarch butterfly was placed on the endangered species list in 2022. I am lucky enough to raise and release Monarchs at home and they have become one of my favorite insects. In this multi-day science class, students will dive into the world of metamorphosis as we become acquainted with the Monarch butterfly. Students will investigate the importance of pollinators and discover ways we can help them. Slides will be shown as we learn all about Monarchs.

Class schedule:

Day 1: Students will identify Monarchs and explore Metamorphosis. We will learn the anatomy of every stage in this cycle and end class by becoming familiar with the Monarch’s ecology, behavior and vulnerabilities.

Day 2: Students will recognize milkweed and its importance. We will examine seasonal generations and track the “great migration.” Students will learn how we can support our pollinators and what we can do specifically for Monarchs.
