Beginner Level
In this 12-week self-paced (asynchronous) class, we will have a blast learning the most commonly taught math skills during the 2nd Grade school year! We will use various objects, pictures, an online whiteboard, etc to help us learn these skills. Each lesson will include pre-recorded, engaging educational videos. Watch and interact with the videos at the time that is most convenient for you. We all have our separate lives, and live in different time zones. Our days become easier to manage when we can focus on our learning when it is best for us to. Each lesson will also include a fun learning activity. The instructions will be posted with each assignment. All learning activities are optional. Class learning objectives: Lesson 1: Learn how to solve 2-digit addition problems using objects and pictures (without re-grouping) (non-word problems) (dragon theme). Lesson 2: Learn how to solve 2-digit subtraction problems using objects and pictures (non-word problems) (dinosaur theme). Lesson 3: Learn how to solve 2-step addition word problems using objects and pictures (without re-grouping) (Pokemon theme). Lesson 4: Learn how to solve 2-step subtraction word problems using objects and pictures (Naruto theme). Lesson 5: Learn how to skip count by 2s (Fortnite theme). Lesson 6: Learn how to skip count by 3s (Roblox theme). Lesson 7: Learn how to skip count by 5s (Minecraft theme). Lesson 8: Learn how to skip count by 10s (emoji theme). Lesson 9: Learn how to use place value to identify the numbers in the ones, tens, and hundreds place (puppies theme). Lesson 10: Learn how to identify the value of money ($1, $5, $10, quarter, nickel, dime, penny) (Sonic theme). Lesson 11: Learn how to tell time (hour) (Super Mario theme). Lesson 12: Learn how to tell time (half-hour) (animal theme). This class is loaded with fun! It is important that we learn and master basic math skills in order to be able to move to more complex math skills. I hope your engines are ready! It's time for blast off! This class is also great for children with special needs as the lessons are taught at a slower, more understandable pace (Autism, ADHD friendly).
Parental Guidance
Parent/s please feel free to offer any additional assistance to your learner if needed (when completing the learning activities). These will be fun, optional activities that we will do with each lesson. Instructions will be posted with each assignment.
Pre-Requisites
No pre-reqs required for this class.
Supply List
Learners can use various objects around their home when practicing the math skills that we go over in class. Paper/pencil or anything to write on and write with will be necessary in order to solve the math problems that will be given during class (optional). A link to the online whiteboard will be posted with the lessons that can be used for extra practice and/or completing the learning activities. If the learners would like to use paper/pencil or their own dry-erase board/markers, etc instead of the online whiteboard, they can. All learning activities are optional (they are used for extra practice). Optional: Learners can post pictures of their favorite characters, toys, games, clothing, etc in our classroom each lesson to match the theme.
