Entering the World of Emotional Intelligence: Understanding Anger

This is a class where we will discuss the emotion of anger, learn ways to cope with this emotion, and play a game to practice our new skills, further strengthening our emotional intelligence.

Class Experience

*Students will discuss what the emotion of anger means to them and learn to put meaning to their feelings.
*Students will learn to accept and acknowledge their emotions and normalize healthy emotional expression.
*Students will identify how they show anger, why they become angry,& when they become angry which will help them identify their triggers.
*Students will learn healthy ways to cope with their anger and create a personalized coping skills tool box.
*Students will practice new skillsthrough a role play game that presents scenarios.
*Students will increase their confidence within their own emotional awareness, expression and regulation.
Teacher has a B.S in Psychology with a minor in human development. Teacher has a Masters degree in Clinical Behavioral Health Social Work. Teacher is certified in multiple evidence based models to improve emotional functioning. Teacher has opened a buisness in the past that focused on strengthening children's emotional intelligence skills through play & therefore completed much research on E.I.  Teacher has several years experience coaching children and adults through skill-building. 
Students will be encouraged to utilize new skills learned in their everyday lives. Students are encouraged to discuss one thing they learned with a parent. Students are encouraged to add to their coping skills tool box as needed. 
Students are encouraged to bring a box to class or any sort( ex. Shoe box, cardboard box, old easter basket). This container will be used for our scavenger hunt. Students will be asked to grab items that symbolize a new coping skill learned for their tool box. All items used require permission from a parent.
A strength based approach will be used and students will be praised for participation. Active participation shows learner progress. 
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
