Texture is a fundamental element in creating art. Principles of art not only help us to create art but also to understand everything that we see. In this class, we will talk about different types of texture (smooth, fluffy, rough, slimy, feathery), observe how texture works in everything we see around us, practice creating our own texture, and make our own textured art project using the techniques we have learned about. Texture can be created with a variety of techniques using lines, shading, or even color. Our main art project in this class will be to make a drawing with two contrasting textures. We will use simple techniques to draw a bird that looks feathery and compare that to the techniques used to make the branch look rough. Be sure to have art supplies ready for these interactive lessons. The supplies needed are flexible. You only need something to draw on and something to draw with. These can be paper, canvas, dry erase board, etc to draw on. You can use pencils, markers, crayons, paint, etc to draw with. Throughout the class, your art guide (that's me) will be on camera and will also be sharing a secondary screen for art demonstration and viewing example artwork. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, concerns, or requests for different meeting times. I'd love to hear from you.

Hello everyone!
If you see a class you like but the time doesn't work, I'm happy to work with your schedule. Even if you are in a different time zone or my automatic availability isn't open at a certain time, reach out and there is a good chance I can make something work for you.
A bit about me and my teaching style:
I am passionate about art and creativity. Even more so, I love to inspire that in others. It's not about talent or skills you were born with, it's all about expressing yourself and growing your talent through practice and guidance. I believe everyone has the ability to create masterpieces and should have the freedom to find their own way of making them. I teach with a step-by-step demonstration approach while encouraging students to do it their own way whenever they feel ready to do so. This approach allows for wonderfully blended classes where the less experienced or shy learners can follow along with me and the bolder ones can work in their own way alongside us. Either way, we all end up with unique art we can be proud of and improved knowledge about the art/craft process we are practicing.
My classes are designed to be highly interactive and engaging with questions & answers throughout as well as hands-on activities. Be sure to check the supply list for each class because learners get the best experience when they are ready to learn with every material needed for the class.
In addition to my bachelor's degree in biology, I have a Graphic Arts certificate which I earned from Autry Technology Center. I earned 1st place in state (Oklahoma) and 6th nationally in the 2001 National Skills USA Championship competition in graphic communications. I teach the arts of drawing and painting to adults online on a voluntary basis. I also teach arts and crafts to children as a professional online and as a volunteer in person.
I have over 3 years of online teaching experience with students 4-17 years old. I have also worked with children in person in a variety of settings from my current position as a children's church leader to volunteering in afterschool care for at-risk children.
