Homework
1 hour per week. As this is an ongoing class, we are not able to include formal homework. Students may be encouraged to give thought to our lessons during the week, but it is not mandatory. Any work outside of class will be determined by the parent and the learner.Assessment
Learner understanding and progress will be determined by discussing the work products, conversations with the student, and input from parents.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 8
(If you need a time other than those currently offered on my schedule, please let me know. I can work with you for a more convenient time to meet. You may want to meet once, or you may want to meet multiple times.) There are several reasons for students to take one-on-one classes. For some, there is a need to learn at a different pace (more quickly or more slowly). Others may want to focus on a specific area of study. Still, others may simply excel more easily in a one-on-one setting. Whichever way is most beneficial for you, if you are you ready to become a stronger and more confident writer, together, we can make that happen! I enjoy a relaxed and conversational atmosphere. I must admit, I also enjoy a good laugh during teaching sessions, so let's enjoy our words together! In these one-on-one sessions, we can focus on a variety of ways to become better writers. Parents and I will discuss how we should proceed with each learner, and we can communicate as needed throughout our time together. Since these are private tutoring sessions, we will complete as much material as is appropriate each week, and we'll pick up from there in the following session. We can choose from the areas of study listed below or create a combination: * grammar; * paragraph structure and creation; * quick-writes that become five-paragraph essays; * writing essays using mentor texts; * using kernel essays to become stronger at getting initial thoughts on paper; * various writing tools (hooks, truisms, text structures and much more); * academic vocabulary; * learning poetic forms; * and using mentor poems to create your own unique poems.
Learning Goals
Our learning goals will be determined by respecting and understanding what the parent believes is needed, what the learner feels is needed, as well as his or her interests, and by informal assessment by me. Together, we'll plan our course of action.

I will provide all materials needed within our slides and any files (pdf, etc.) as needed.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from LeTourneau University
I have three degrees in education, including a masters in Curriculum & Instruction and a masters Educational Leadership. I am trained and certified as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor, a curriculum specialist (teaching teachers), and to serve as principal. Teaching students from the age of four to high school students to write in all areas has been a joy for me for nearly 15 years. Assisting students to prepare for state and regional writing exams is one of my strongest suits. I've had the pleasure of doing this in public schools and with students from multiple countries through the Outschool platform. I've also assisted other teachers in becoming stronger in this area.
