US Grade 7 - 11
Our class sessions will focus on a learner's specific English skill needs. Learners are encouraged to come to the session with assignments that they have been working on in which they need assistance and/or have questions about, OR if learners do not have a specific assignment, the teacher will provide writing, reading, listening, speaking, or test prep activities as necessary to identify skill areas that need strengthened and begin working on these. Since this is a one-on-one class, classes can be designed specifically to meet the learners' needs. (Parents, guardians, and learners -- Feel free to message me in advance to let me know exactly what you would like help with.) Enroll in this course if you are . . . An ESL / EFL Learner: Reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels are options to cover. A middle school student (minimum age 12), high school student, or recent high school graduate (BEFORE age 19): Parts of speech, functions, sentence structure, punctuation, topic sentences, paragraph writing, thesis development, essay organization, logical connectors, writing to a prompt, increasing vocabulary, writing different essay types (persuasive, descriptive, etc.), or writing college/scholarship essays are options to cover. A high school student who is prepping for the SAT or ACT Test: Test questions from the writing language sections of these tests will be covered. Our time will involve working together to discover errors in a learner's usage along with working through how to correct these. The teacher will guide the learner in identifying problem areas and encourage the use of appropriate strategies and patterns in order that the learner can begin to to self-correct and self-edit. We will also note what a learner is doing well and celebrate these victories in order to encourage and solidify good patterns and habits. Learners must be willing to write, speak (use microphone), and ask questions. These one-on-one sessions provide a low-stress, positive environment, where the learner will be encouraged to take risks. This type of environment is often ideal for learners who may be struggling in a classroom setting or who may benefit greatly from a one-on-one interaction situation in order to stay focused and/or to make faster, more concentrated progress. One-on-one sessions can also be great for learners who may be more advanced and need the additional challenge and engagement.
Learning Goals
