All assignments will received detailed feedback given in writing or orally within the class session by the instructor, pending the student has completed the assignment within the allotted time.Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 12
These one-on-one sessions will focus on a learner's specific writing needs. Learners are encouraged to come to the class with writing that they have been working on in which they need assistance and have questions regarding how to improve it. If learners do not have a specific assignment, the teacher will provide sentence, paragraph, pre-writing activities, and/or essay prompts to identify skill areas that need strengthened and begin working on these. Areas of focus will include punctuating sentences correctly, using a variety of sentence structures, employing transition words and logical connectors, expanding writing through descriptive vocabulary and examples, and formatting paragraphs and essays correctly. Our time together will involve discovering errors in a learner's writing along with working through how to correct these. The teacher will guide the learner in identifying problem areas and encourage the use of appropriate strategies and patterns in order that the learner can begin to to self-correct and self-edit. We will also note what a learner is doing well and celebrate these victories in order to encourage and solidify good writing patterns and habits. Learners must have a good command of the English language and be able to write at the sentence level minimally. Learners must also be willing to share their writing, speak up, and ask questions. These one-on-one sessions provide a low-stress, positive environment, where the learner will be encouraged to take risks in his/her writing. This type of environment is often ideal for teens who may be struggling with writing in a classroom setting, who may benefit greatly from a one-on-one interaction situation in order to stay focused, or who need the additional challenge to take their writing to the next level.
Learning Goals
Learners will understand the foundational elements of writing.
Learners will improve their writing skills and confidence.

Teacher expertise and credentials

Master's Degree from Wheaton College
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Judson College (now known as Judson University)
I've taught English for over 25 years in various settings, plus I've been a home school mom for the past 14 years. I have seen many, many students lack a good grasp of basic grammar and writing skills, and it really shows when they get to high school (and higher levels) as they struggle with writing papers and essays. Now is the time to use the language and writing skills that they know to form solid writing habits. It's a great, practical life skill!
