I will keep a comprehensive list of topics we have covered to assist me with understanding and communicating to you your student's needs.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Advanced Level
This is an "As-Needed" Tutoring Course, as such it does not have a standard curriculum, so we will focus on each student's individual needs. My philosophy is (and always has been) that students learn best when they are enjoying the class or— at the very least— not dreading the class. One of the ways I fight against this is by targeting passages, articles, and stories that are more interesting or personal to the learner which in turn helps them make better connections to the text. If they are more personally involved in the text, they read it more carefully which helps them improve the fundamental reading skills that apply to all readings. I can also use a similar tactic to improve their writing abilities by finding prompts that interest them where they have more to say about a subject if that topic is something they can either relate to or talk about easily. This can vary between specific instruction or hands-on practice based on what the individual student needs. I am ready to support your student in any way that they need support. I can create assignments that improve a student's reading comprehension skills by targeting their likes and interests or help them build their vocabulary through tested strategies. My experience as an English teacher helps me build unique assignments which are important when learning new topics. When it comes to education, there is no "one size fits all." Each student is unique and requires different strategies to learn efficiently.
Learning Goals
Students can improve their reading skills through one-on-one time practicing texts of appropriate difficulty that also generate interest in the student.
Students can improve their writing skills through specialized writing prompts and practices that are uniquely targeted to the needs of the individual.
