This course is ideal for children who already know how to read in Spanish and are ready to transfer those skills to reading in English. In this 11-week class, students will meet three times a week to build strong English phonics and decoding skills using a step-by-step approach designed for bilingual learners. Each lesson focuses on a targeted sound pattern—from short vowels and silent E words to blends, digraphs, tricky spellings, and vowel teams. Students will read and spell new words, practice with engaging activities, and develop fluency by reading in full sentences and stories. This class is perfect for early readers who are confident in Spanish and want to boost their reading ability in English through structured, supportive instruction. Please note: this class is taught entirely in English.
Learning Goals
Identify and pronounce short vowel sounds in English
Decode and read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words
Understand and apply the silent E rule (CVCe words)
Read and spell common blends (L-blends, R-blends, S-blends, and ending blends)
