This is an Ongoing English, Reading Readiness, Phonics and Poetry Club. Topics covered will include poems about seasonal themes, plants and animals, adventure and travel, bedtime stories, art and creativity. Thought provoking field guides are provided and discussed around children's ideas and responses about each poem. Slideshows and readings of the poems and illustrations will be presented. Learners will be encouraged to discuss the poem and respond to field guide questions about the poem,...
This class is taught in English.
Learners will develop listening skills, acclimate to and develop English Reading Readiness, and practice phonics through poetry. Learners will also use innovative ideas to discuss their thoughts about the poems and its various subjects. Learners develop reading skills on their own develop a love of reading through storytelling, poetry, and rhyming.
Printables of each poem and field guide will be provided to families. Learners and their families can continue the discussion and activities as they choose to.
Students may want to bring a pencil or pen and notebook or sketchbook to write or draw their responses to the poems.
Learners are encouraged to engage in group discussion if they feel comfortable. As the Poetry Club Progresses learners may feel compelled to write or share their own poems and stories.
15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
