Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⭐Course Overview⭐ ▬▬▬▬▬▬
In this class, students will learn the fundamental skills required to read fluently.
Our primary objective is to teach students how to identify letters by the sounds they make and to blend sounds together to form words and sentences. Each lesson will include a range of activities such as identifying sounds, blending words, rhyming, new vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩‍🏫Teaching Style👩‍🏫 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
Our teachers use a combination of interactive slides and visual aids, such as hand and body movements, to enhance students' understanding of the material. For example, students will learn how to count phonemes when sounding out words and how to form their mouths to achieve the correct pronunciation.

The slides will be interactive, and students will need to have access to their writing tools via the Zoom annotation bar. The teacher will provide consistent blending methods to read new words and sentences, and the lessons will be repetitive to ensure that all information taught is revisited during each class.

📅 Are you looking for a class that meets 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x per week? Send us a message about a class frequency change.
💬 We can also accommodate learners and families wanting full immersion vs. bilingual classes. Send us a message to learn more!

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🌍Target Student🌍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
This class is designed for students who are familiar with most letter sounds and have some experience with blending phonemes to sound out words.

At the end of our four weeks of lessons, we will cycle back to the beginning. Students are welcome to join and leave at any time, as there is no previous information needed in order to succeed in the current week’s lesson. If you’d like to know exactly what week we are in (and that week’s topic), please send us a message to inquire.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📚Weekly Course Examples📚 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
This class is on a 4 week rotation, and each week will introduce additional sounds that students will use to practice consistent blending methods to read new words and sentences. Students can join at any time and feel comfortable learning as the lessons will be progressive, yet accessible to newcomers.

⭐Week 1: Students will learn how to identify and blend additional sounds, including "k," "long o," and "v," with rhyming, word reading, and sentence reading.
⭐Week 2: Students will learn how to identify and blend additional sounds, including "p," "ch," and "ar," with rhyming, word reading, and sentence reading.
⭐Week 3: Students will learn how to identify and blend additional sounds, including "short e" and "b," with rhyming, word reading, and paragraph reading.
⭐Week 4: Students will learn how to identify and blend additional sounds, including "ing," "long i," and "y," with rhyming, word reading, and story reading with titles.

After your child’s 4 weeks of class participation, they will have developed the fundamental skills required to read fluently and will have increased their vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills.

Learning Needs
This curriculum is designed to support learners with unique learning needs. It is taught with a direct instruction approach while implementing multisensory learning, which combines sight, hearing, touch, and movement.
Pre-Requisites
- knowledge of letters and sounds - experience blending to sounds words out - exposure to following along and reading sentences
Supply List
It will be very helpful if students are able to access their writing tools from the Zoom annotation bar. If this is not possible they should have a pencil, crayons and paper or a marker and whiteboard available to write with. It is a goal to have some time for writing after each reading lesson. On occasion, depending on the students in class and how much time they require to complete the lesson, we may not make it to the writing portion.
