In this 12-week course, your learners will be taught how to structure an essay from the start to completion, first covering the parts of speech and punctuation, followed by sentence structure and paragraph structure, which leads to an essay.

Class experience

US Grade 3 - 6
- Learners will master the 8 parts of speech;
- Learners will find out the correct ways to use Full Stops, Commas, Colons, Semicolons, Question Marks, Exclamation Marks, Hyphens, a Dash, an Ellipsis, Brackets/Parentheses, Quotation Marks, an Apostrophe, etc;
- Your learners will practice Sight Words/Vocabulary Words/Academic Words according to the level that each student is learning at;
- Your learners will write simple sentences, paying attention to singular & plural terms. Next, they will change tenses (past, present, future). They will also write compound sentences, then complex sentences, & finally periodic sentences;
- Your learners will write simple paragraphs, paying attention to the prompt/s, the topic, and the audience.
Next, they will discuss the pros and cons of the topic if applicable in order to demonstrate a well-rounded view.
They will also learn how to conclude their paragraphs so as to ensure that each paragraph contains and discusses just one idea;
- Students will know how to write a 5-paragraph essay by the end of this course.
I am a native English speaker with a 150-hour TESOL qualification from Arizona State University and post-graduate qualifications in Applied Linguistics from Monash University.

I am also a lawyer in Australia and I homeschool my own children, therefore speaking and teaching clearly have been a part of my life for many years, and now I am also applying these skills to teaching others.

Other applicable courses that I have completed that pertain to this class include:

- Reason and Persuasion: Thinking Through Three Dialogues By Plato;
- Technology and Ethics;
- ADHD: Everyday Strategies for Elementary Students;
- The Clinical Psychology of Children and Young People;
- Everyday Parenting: The ABCs of Child Rearing;
- A Brief History of Humankind.
Homework Offered
Learners will need to complete daily activities 2 days per week and upload them to the classroom or in a message to the teacher for feedback.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
- At the end of the course, all learners will have written an essay. - If more advanced learners wish to supplement some of the vocabulary used in class with more advanced vocabulary, then that would be appropriate. - Learners will submit their essays to the teacher in a private message at the end of the week via the classroom, and the teacher will provide feedback and suggest where the learner needs to work on to improve upon certain skills if applicable. - Students who are homeschooled will be able to use their written and typed drafts as assessment examples that they can submit with their reports in their own jurisdictions along with the class description essentially as the lesson plan to go with the assessment.
Grades Offered
- Learners will need paper and a pen or a pencil for writing, and/or a word processor hardware/software device for typing.
- Relevant handouts will be uploaded at the start of the week to the classroom to be printed out ahead of classes.
