2019-2022 Teaching Digital Design (as well as Creative Writing) using Canva graphic design app

Teaching Philosophy:
My philosophy behind my teaching is I consider my students to be writers before they take any of my classes. They might be at different levels of proficiency, but most students are required to write from the time they can hold a crayon throughout their school years. I want to give my writers the agency to express themselves creatively through poetry, short stories, and creative non-fiction (personal narratives, blogs, podcast scripts, etc.)
Homework Offered
Each week, students will read an assigned personal narrative to read and specific questions to answer, based on the skills we are studying that week. Each week, students will also work on writing their own personal narrative. There are 2 assignments due on Fridays of each week to be turned in to me inside the Outschool classroom. Time Commitment for this course: 1 hour 40 minutes per week in LIVE class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class. for reading and finalizing assignments.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners will be assessed using both informal assessments via discussions as well as rubrics associated with each standard studied. Students will have the opportunity to revise for higher scores. Written reports and letter grades available upon request.
Grades Offered
Students need to have a private, parental guidance Google account that is not connected to a school account because my files may not appear in their school account. They will need to log in with a Google email address to be able to copy and use Assignments as well as other materials for the class.

For students who like to write ideas on paper before they type into a computer, a spiral notebook is a good idea to use for this class.
Students will be reading grade level texts that may include serious topics, such as life and death, racism, war, etc. For example, Paul Revere's Ride which may be a text used is about the beginnings of the Revolutionary war. Or Dr. Martin Luther King's speech in Washington, DC for jobs - also known as the "I have a dream..." speech describes racism and its effects on everyone. I will be listing all stories and poetry we will be using here as soon as possible.
