US Grade 6 - 8
This is a 9 week English Language Arts class for seventh grade. The following areas will be taught. Reading Students learn to decode and understand the meaning of words, recognize unfamiliar words, and comprehend the meaning of frequently used words. They also learn to analyze and synthesize information, and determine the theme and author's purpose of a text. Students will identify story elements. Writing Students learn to adapt their writing to the intended audience, task, or purpose. They also learn to organize descriptive and personal narrative writing, and develop topics with relevant content, language, and style. Speaking and listening Students learn to collaborate and discuss a variety of subjects, and develop respectful communication skills. They also learn to present arguments and information. Grammar Students learn about grammar. Students also engage with diverse literary works, such as novels, poems, and short stories. They explore thematic questions related to identity, class, socialization, environment, and community. A typical day: 1. Students will start with a short daily exercise that is done as soon as they enter class. 2. Tuesdays will be reading comprehension day. We will choose a novel the first day of class. Some chapters I will read aloud as they follow along, some chapters they will read aloud, and some chapters will be assigned as independent reading. 3. Wednesdays will be grammar day. We will learn and practice the parts of speech. 4. Thursdays will be writing day. We will start by writing strong sentences, then strong paragraphs. There will be occasional assigned writing assignments for homework. About Me: I am a fun, laidback teacher who encourages participation and good conversations and discussions. I am very good with both introverted and extroverted students. I am not a strict teacher. I encourage self expression. With that said, I DO maintain class control and keep things flowing. I also make sure that all learners have equal time, and don't allow one student to dominate the class. I have experience teaching ALL grade levels, and I hope to work together with your learner to make their seventh grade year a huge success.
