Homework
Students are expected to complete the draft and final version of their essay after class. Depending on the length of the essay and student motivation, this might take anywhere from 1-3 hours. Or, if preferred, students can enroll again to continue working on the project with me.Class Experience
US Grade 7 - 10
In this 45 minute private class I will help students understand, and respond to English class essay prompts. We will discuss the question, and try to identify what information the teacher is seeking, and then organize a response. We also discuss how to incorporate relevant quotes and use these to support the argument. We will review the proper format for an essay and discuss grammar concepts as needed. This class is mostly discussion based, but I will encourage the student to take notes about some of the ideas we discuss. Students often visit me on a regular basis for ongoing assistance. I am a patient and casual teacher. I encourage maximum student output and try to guide learners by posing questions for them to consider. This is a private class, so your student will have my undivided attention.
Learning Goals
Students will become more comfortable writing essays by following a five part process - analyze the question, brainstorm answers, prepare an outline, write a draft, and edit. In a typical 45 minute class we can usually discuss steps 1, 2, and 3. The student is expected to write a draft and edit their work after class. Students frequently visit me repeatedly for ongoing help with longer assignments.

I take my teaching seriously, but I try to present the material in a fun way to encourage learners to participate and enjoy learning.
