Students will become more comfortable writing essays by following a five part process - analyze the question, brainstorm answers, prepare an outline, write a draft, edit and complete. In a typical 45 minute class we can usually discuss steps 1, 2, and 3. The student is expected to write a draft and edit their work after class.
Students are expected to complete the draft and final version of their essay after class. Depending on the length of the essay and student motivation, this might take anywhere from 1-3 hours.
This class is mainly discussion based, but students may find it helpful to take notes about our conversation on paper or a computer.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
