Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 4
PLEASE NOTE: this class is in very high demand and I now enroll students by request only. If you see any "availability" listed on line, it is likely to be incorrect. Please contact me to discuss up to date availability. I work very hard to try to fit new students into my schedule. In this class we will study a different grammar concept in each meeting. We can meet once a week, or multiple times as preferred by the parent. Since this is a private lesson, I will adjust the content to meet the level of the enrolled student. Below is a list of topics to be covered. 1. basic punctuation (period, question mark, exclamation point, comma) 2. nouns, verbs, adjectives 3. proper vs common nouns (when to use upper case letters) 4. plural noun formation, including common irregulars 5. verb tenses - present, past, future, including common irregulars 6. comparative adjectives (big, bigger biggest) 7. demonstrative pronouns (this, that, these, those) 8. articles (a, an, the) 9. contractions (I am becomes I'm) 10. commonly confused words (to/too/two, their/there/they're, than/then etc 11. compound words (toothbrush, earthquake, raindrop) 12. antonyms/synonyms (big/small, happy/sad.... big/huge/giant, tiny/small/mini) 13. adverbs (describe verbs) 14. homonyms, homographs, homophones 15. idioms This class is appropriate for students who are home schooled, enrolled in public/independent school, or those who might be learning English as a second language.

Bachelor's Degree in English from Smith College
I have worked with children ages 3-18 for over 25 years. My experience includes a broad range of skills from pre-reading through university preparation. My specialty is English language learning. I have taught preschool as a lead teacher, and also substituted regularly in elementary and middle school classrooms. Additional experience includes private tutoring for Spanish, reading skills and college essay writing. I also enjoy teaching English as a second language to adults and children. I have worked both in person, and on line, and I am familiar with skills necessary to make both venues successful. I have an undergraduate degree in Engish/Spanish and a graduate degree in communications. I take my teaching seriously, but I try to present the material in a fun way to encourage learners to participate and enjoy learning.
