English Fun: ESL Vocabulary and Conversation!
In this ongoing course, English learners will discuss a different engaging topic each week, using key vocabulary provided by the teacher.

In this ongoing class, students will practice speaking conversational English using relevant vocabulary. There will be a new fun topic each week, so feel free to drop in whenever you like! First, the teacher will assess the background knowledge of students on the topic. Students will share what they already know about the topic, including vocabulary. Next, the teacher will share additional vocabulary students need to discuss the topic. The teacher will provide engaging images related to the topic to spark conversation. She will also provide sentence frames and a word bank to provide further support. Students will practice explaining and elaborating on their ideas. They will also practice asking and answering questions, asking follow-up questions, and using the key vocabulary correctly. The teacher will provide feedback to each student to help them on their language journey! Students should be able to introduce themselves in English. Here are the first four topics we will cover in the class: Week of August 10: Who I Am Week of August 17: My Best Friend Week of August 23: All About School Week of August 30: Yummy Food
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to express themselves in English through guided class discussion.

The teacher will provide a graphic organizer on which students can write their new vocabulary.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an experienced Elementary educator with a with a Bachelor's in English and a Master's in TESOL. I am certified to teach ESOL preK-12 and Elementary Education. I am passionate about all things English Language Arts! I have extensive experience enhancing reading comprehension through vocabulary study and class discussion. I also have experience demystifying elements of grammar, and leading students through all stages of the writing process. In addition, I have experience teaching phonemic awareness, phonics, and letter-sound recognition to learners K-2. My classes include a deep dive into vocabulary to improve reading comprehension, grammar workshops, and classes focused on phonics and phonemic awareness. I also lead book group discussions for readers in 3-6 grade. Finally, I offer creative writing workshops in which students leave with the structure for a short story or poem, and classes in which I guide students through all stages of the writing process. I value the experiences, perspectives, and ideas each students brings to class. I am a yoga teacher and nature lover. I can often be found on a hiking trail with my dog!
