Class Experience

This class is for young students whose native language in French and who want to learn English. **This is not a total immersion class. Ce cours est pour les enfants francophones qui apprennent l'anglais.

We will speak a mix of French and. English. C'est vraiment un mélange de français et anglais qu'on utilise pour apprendre l'anglais.

Each week, we will watch a short Youtube video about a different theme. We will learn the English vocabulary associated with the video, then watch the video and talk about the lyrics. Then, we will work on practicing short conversations around the theme of the video. For example, we might watch "what's for breakfast", learn breakfast foods in English, and be able to talk about our preferences. Through questioning, speaking practice and small group interaction, French speaking children will expand their vocabulary and practice speaking to others in English. Being bilingual, the teacher is able to explain grammar and vocabulary in both French and English to students who have little to no English experience.

Here is an example sequence for weekly vocabulary:
11/8 - Making nouns plural. What does it mean to vote?
11/15- Fall vocabulary and making nouns plural
11/22 What's for breakfast? Identify breakfast foods and talk about what people eat around the world
11/30- Let's talk about breakfast preferences!
12/6 What's for lunch? Identify lunch foods and talk about what people eat around the world
12/13- Winter vocabulary and describing seasons
12/20- Winter vocabulary and fun activities to do outside in the cold
2/21- Valentines Day
2/28- Talking about the future
