Teacher expertise and credentials
After many happy years teaching in English primary schools for many years, I became an ESL (English as a second language ) tutor to children from all over the world but mainly from China and Japan. I have been so lucky to meet so many wonderful students and their families.
Subjects taught;
-I offer 1 to 1 ESL(English as a second language) classes. I make a personalised plan for each student.
-I also offer reading and comprehension tutoring for young learners (age 3 to 9) These classes are also very suitable for ESL learners. I teach using the systematic phonic approach to crack the code of reading! I also teach the 'tricky' or 'high frequency words' My lessons develop confidence in reading and fluency. They are also lots of fun!
Here are my credentials;
-BA with honours degree in Psychology and Sociology from The University of Liverpool
-PGCE (Post GraduateCertificate in Education) from Southampton
-Primary School teacher (Early years foundation stage specialist) with experience in teaching phonics to young children.
-Childcare Assessor
-Private teacher. Teaching English as a second language.
I'm very excited to tutor even more children here on Outschool!
I have helped many children gain confidence to speak and read English some children didn't speak a word of English when I first met them. My teaching style is relaxed and very supportive. The best way to learn English is by using it, so my students are encouraged to speak in full sentences and talk as much as possible.
I am VERY patient and I will give my students time to answer and form the sentences firstly in their mind before speaking; this is so important when learning a new language. But if your child is struggling I will help them by giving them a clue for example the beginning sound of the word they need. Finally, I will help them with the answer. Confidence to talk is key.
I believe learning should be fun and engaging, no one wants to come to a boring lesson!
Parents like my encouraging and supportive lessons, children like my friendly, calm and fun classes.. We will use games, songs, props as well as interactive power points. I believe in using a range of teaching styles though out my lessons. For example, sometimes the children will be singing, using actions or writing on a whiteboard. Just like they would do in a real classroom.
I also find out what my students like to engage them even more. If your child is a Bluey fan, no problem, we will talk about Bluey in class in an age and level appropriate way to encourage their conversation skills.
I am quick to assess new learners and ensure the level appropriate content is taught. I have regular show and tell sessions so my students can show me a favourite toy or book and practice using their English in a relaxed way.
My classroom is a place where children are encouraged and supported.
When I'm not teaching, you can usually find me at our local beach here on the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight is a small island in the UK. IT's only 26 miles across, you can walk from one end of the island to the other in a day!
I also love swimming in the sea with my friends and walking my little dog Mabel.
I love to travel, my last trip was to Japan where I visited Mount Fuji!
