Wordly Wise is an excellent vocabulary program that gives students a wonderful introduction to new words! Using short but impactful activities, students will learn 15 new words each week. We will meet once a week and complete all sections of each lesson weekly. Students must have their own copy of the Wordly Wise 3000 Book 6 workbook to participate in class. Book 6 is typically for Grade 6 students, but any learner between 10-14 years old is welcome to enroll. ** Lessons do NOT build on each other so students can attend any week as desired to accommodate different schedules.** Various activities in the workbook include: completing sentences, using context clues to find the correct meaning, applying meanings, seeing connections between words, and also reading a story that uses all 15 words from the lesson. Lesson activities A-D are short, to keep students interested, and are often multiple-choice. Lesson Activity E consists of the reading passage for the week. Weekly Class Activities: * Correct homework answers from previous week's lesson for Activities A-D. Students will complete these activities BEFORE class as homework. * Read definitions and discuss each of the 15 NEW vocabulary words for the next lesson. * Teacher will model pronunciation and usage of the word including its part(s) of speech in example sentences. * Students and teacher will read the current week's reading passage aloud and discuss. * Class will complete story comprehension questions together. * Play a Kahoot! game to check for comprehension and retention of word meanings. * The new week's Activities A-D will be assigned as homework for students to complete before the next class. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, you may unenroll your learner to open up their spot for another child and re-enroll upon your return, if space is available at that time. Thank you for your understanding!
Learning Goals
Students will broaden their learning horizons as they learn new words, discover how to use them in everyday language, and deepen their understanding of how we use words to communicate clearly and effectively. Confidence in vocabulary will often increase a student's proficiency in spelling and love of reading!
