Progress Report
Once a month, usually every 4 to 5 classes, I will write a progress report on how your child is doing in class. This will include what your child is writing about, what writing techniques they are good at and what techniques we are currently working on.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
*As a professional English teacher, I am highly skilled and knowledgeable in the field of creative and descriptive writing. Please visit the 'teacher's expertise' section for more information*

*Learners are required to use 'Google Docs' to write their chapters. This make it easier for me to track the feedback part of the class as well as their progress.*

Welcome to the Creative Writing Tutoring Class!

In this ongoing class, learners will explore the art of creative writing, developing their skills in crafting compelling stories, characters, and worlds. Whether your child is interested in fantasy, mystery, adventure, or any other genre, this class will help them bring their imagination to life on the page. Prior knowledge of creative writing is not necessary—just a love for storytelling and a desire to learn!

Class Overview:

This class will be structured around learners creating their own original story, guided by professional instruction in planning, writing, and revising. Here's what to expect:

Planning Your Story:

Your child will start by developing a basic outline of their story, focusing on the key elements such as characters, plot, setting, and genre. The planning process is kept simple to encourage creativity and flexibility, allowing the story to evolve naturally as they write. This approach prevents overthinking and keeps the writing process enjoyable.

Writing the First Chapter:

After planning, learners will write the first chapter of their story, with each chapter being between 300-400 words. This length allows for detailed feedback during class, helping learners improve their writing from the outset. Consistent feedback after each chapter ensures steady progress, so by the time they reach Chapter Five, they’ll see significant improvement in their writing skills.

Focus on Writing Technique:

Initially, feedback will center on writing technique—clarity, coherence, grammar, and style. As learners grow more confident in their writing, feedback will expand to include narrative elements like plot development, character growth, and storytelling techniques.

*Class Structure Overview:

First Class:

- Introductions: 5 minutes

- Planning Your Story: 10 minutes – It’s recommended that your child come with a basic idea of their story.

- Writing Chapter One: 20/25 minutes

- Feedback: 10/15 minutes

*Subsequent Classes:

- Reviewing Previous Chapter and Feedback: 5/10 minutes

- Writing the Next Chapter: 25/30 minutes

- Feedback: 10/15 minutes

I look forward to working with your child in this creative writing journey! Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns.
