Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this ongoing live class, students will build their reading skills by putting together two smaller words to build a compound word. We will practice through slides and flashcards, choral reading as a class, and one on one opportunity for students to explore the topic. We will also explore short stories that contain the phonics we are working on. Students will play group games to assess their comprehension. I believe that when students are given the opportunity to explore and explain a subject in a fun and engaging way, they will be able to retain the information easier. Pre-requisite: Students need to be able to read CVC, CVCe, CvvC words in this class. We will build on sounding out these words and putting them together into compound words.

Sept 8th- compound words with up
Sept 15- compound words with some
Sept 22- compound words with any
Sept 29- compound words with body
Oct 5- compound words about places
Oct 12- compound words about items

I am Mrs V, as my classroom students call me. I teach phonics, grammar, science, math, and music classes. I am licensed to teach kindergarten through 6th grade. I also have a minor in music. I taught preschool for 6 years and I did student teaching in kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grades. I have worked part time in the public school system for the last 5 years. I homeschool my two youngest children and enjoy finding fun new ways to teach things. I also teach ESL classes online. I believe that including the student's interests into the lesson engages the learning and makes learning fun and more easily attainable. Fun, hands on activities and games provide an engaging learning environment. My hobbies are animals (I live on a small farm), music (I minored in music), reading and crocheting. I love working with children and seeing the light in their eyes when they learn something new.
